The Classification of Food Groups

NutritionFood is our fuel. Food, once ingested, is broken down into smaller units and then assimilated into our bodies. It plays a necessary role in the biological functions of life. While the process of intaking food into our bodies is called eating, the set of phenomena through which the nutrients (the basic units present in the food) are used is called nutrition. Foods are classified into 7 food groups and each food group contributes certain specific nutrients, as can be seen in the table below.
